Tree's Hike - Petriș
Starting in front of Salbek Castle in Petriș, this easy and accessible trail offers a scenic forest walk to two viewpoints overlooking the Mureș Valley. Along the way, hikers can discover a local apiary and enjoy a traditional culinary stop at Agropensiunea Miliza.
We propose an easy and accessible trail that starts right in the center of Petriș Commune.
Cars can be parked in front of Salbek Castle, a place steeped in history that is currently undergoing renovation. Unfortunately, until the work is completed, the castle can only be admired from the outside.
We set off on DJ 707, and after about 500 m (10 minutes) we turn right. From here, a gentle ascent follows for roughly 1.5 km (30 minutes) up to the first viewpoint.
Along the way, we invite you to take in the landscape and discover the local biodiversity characteristic of this region. To make the walk even more engaging and help you forget any fatigue, we suggest a fun interactive activity: try to count how many different tree species you can identify along the path.
Upon reaching the first viewpoint, you will enjoy an expansive overview of the Mureș Valley. In the distance, you can spot the villages of Pojoga and Sălciva on the opposite side of the Mureș River, while the village of Seliște comes into view closer by. This is a special spot where we encourage you to take a brief rest before moving on.
On the way to the second viewpoint—located about 700 m (14 minutes) ahead—we pass by an apiary. Beekeeping is a traditional local activity, and the honey produced here is well regarded for its quality.
Reaching the second viewpoint, you can admire Petriș Commune from above and enjoy the scenic panorama while catching your breath before the descent.
On the return leg, after about 300 m (6 minutes), you have the option to head directly down toward Agropensiunea Miliza, where you can stay overnight or, with a advance reservation, sample a lovingly prepared traditional meal.
If you choose to stay on the main loop, roughly 750 m (15 minutes) brings you back to the DJ 707 county road. From there, it is about 900 m (18 minutes) back to the parking spot in front of Salbek Castle.
A short and pleasant trail combining forest paths, Mureș Valley views, two scenic lookouts, and a few highlights that make Petriș Commune a place well worth discovering on foot.
